Winter Solstice: Winter Solstice are a five piece folk band hailing from Brisbane town, Queensland. Ari, Rosie, Kez, Mitch and Jess met while studying music together at Southbank and came together to form Winter Solstice. Each brought their own varied tastes in musical genres including folk, classical, jazz, pop, metal, etc. to the melting pot to create the rich harmonies, complex melodies and infectious rhythms that is their sound.

Whilst studying the band played many gigs together in venues such as The Globe, The Zoo, The Hive and The Prince of Wales Hotel; as well as playing at events such as the 4 Walls Festival in Kelvin Grove. Now having completed their diplomas, Winter Solstice are in the process of promoting their new EP which was released in October 2010. From here Winter Solstice plans to bring their music to the rest of the world, who we’re sure will welcome it with open arms.

Mardi Lumsden: Mardi Lumsden is a jack of many trades. The alt-folk singer-songwriter from Brisbane, Australia, is also a journalist, has written a thesis on Brisbane’s music street press, and presents a segment on local Brisbane music on ABC radio. She co-owns indie label Wallflower Records and taught gymnastics for many years (but has only managed one gymnastics reference in her music so far). Mardi captures the simplicity and intricacies of human nature in her songs. With her band, Mardi Lumsden & the Rising Seas, the songs are lovingly crafted; weaving stories together using the melodica, banjo-mandolin and other instruments friends (and strangers) have passed along. Mardi Lumsden & the Rising Seas recorded their second EP, Wherever you go, there you are, with ARIA-award winning producer Magoo at his Applewood studio, a converted church west of Brisbane. The EP’s closing track, Classified (WVTM), won the 2010 Q Song award in the Folk/Ballad section and was a finalist for the 2010 Song of the Year. www.mardilumsden.com

Swaying Buildings: Swaying Buildings are a pop band from Brisbane, Australia. Formed in 2006 they’ve since released their debut album ‘Something In My Shoes’ and sophomore record ‘Bloom Beside The Freeway Moon’. The band’s sound has been described as an effortless blend of the best bits of indie rock from the 1980s to today. Noteworthy performances include Brisbane’s Valley Fiesta and Whiskey A Go Go (Los Angeles) as well as supports for Australian bands such as Cloud Control and The Seabellies.

Jeremy Neale: Part man, part minotaur, all epic adventure. Jeremy fronts the 12-piece garage pop monster Velociraptor and plays in more bands than he knows what to do with. On top of this he has recently begun to share the songs of his solo folk collection with his debut EP set for release on July 16, 2011. Behold, a man, a guitar and the soundtrack to a sunny day. www.triplejunearthed.com/jeremyneale

We The Ghosts: ‘We the Ghosts’ are an alt-country/pop band from the Great South East of Queensland, Australia. With Cesar’s songwriting and Alex’s guitar work to polish it off, the Duo effortlessly blends Country music with a love for bluegrass and a bucket full of catchy hooks.

Bity Booker: Bity Booker is a singer, songwriter. She was born in Carrara, Italy. Nurtured by artistic parents with a passion for music, her father is an Australian sculptor and her mother an Italian art teacher.While Bity was a small child, her family noticed her natural musical ability, and encouraged her interest in music. She was interested in singing and music from an early age.During high school she developed an interest for heavy metal music, she started to sing in heavy metal bands at the age of 14. On graduating from Art Institute in Perugia in 2007, she attended Università degli Studi di Perugia (2008-2010) major in Anthropology, and started to study guitar.In 2009 she decided to quit screaming/growling and sing with her clean, bright and unusual voice again. She started to develop her unique style of songwriting with her classical guitar, she decided to do things her way writing many songs. In 2010 after graduating she moved to Australia where she’s playing live and studying music.

Inland Sea: The ten members of Brisbane’s Inland Sea are bound together by a love of complex harmonies and song writing. Since forming in early 2010 Inland Sea have won hearts with their luscious five-part vocal harmonies, interwoven instrumentation and lyrical sincerity. Creating a sound that soars and swells higher than the tide, their music evokes the awe, majesty, melancholy and bittersweet joy of the stormy shore. In 2011, Inland Sea are going from strength to strength, winning a spot at Laneway from Triple J Unearthed, and playing shortly after at Playground Weekender for their debut interstate show. Having supported the likes of John Steel Singers/Jonathan Boulet on the “Here’s Johnny” Tour, and the predominantly sold out Passenger “Flight of the Crow” tour, the ten-piece have shared their sound with much of the Australian East Coast and left them wanting more.

Pear and The Awkward Orchestra: Sweet juicy and unique, pear and the awkward orchestra are a quirky, memorable musical offering; whimsical folk-pop from a mini-orchestra of diverse instrumentation and sparse arrangements supporting an emotive and powerful voice and gritty, personal songs. Pear and The Awkward Orchestra are Brisbane-based.  EP Russian Doll (2007) and EP something will come (2009) have enjoyed critical acclaim and regular airplay and orchestrated the grassroots rise of this unique band.  A full-length debut album is in production to be released in July 2011, single Oh Katrina released February 2011 and on radio rotation Australia-wide.

Edward Guglielmino: Edward Guglielmino is a chameleon and a comedian; marrying his left field abstract-folk-rock with a sincere honesty. Ed has gained strong tastemaker respect and a burgeoning underground following in his home country, Australia and further afield. 2011 sees Guglielmino working on his upcoming release Ed G & The Show with producer Jamie Travaskis (the producer responsible for such local classics as Mckisko, Texas Tea’s ‘The Junk Ship Recordings’ and Timothy Lee Carrolls ‘For Bread and Circuses’), playing shows in New York and touring the east coast with Kate Nash amongst others. Guglielmino also worked with the Sound Crane project a collaborative album composed in order to raise money for the tsunami victims in Japan.

A brief history of achievements;

In 2010 Guglielmino’s gig with David McCormack on the 18th of April was recently listed as one of the 10 highlights of the April by ‘Australia’s Year In Music 2010’ His single ‘Settle Down With Me’ was also released and received airplay on Triple J, FBI, 3rrr RTR and Edge Fm. It was also a featured release on Itunes Australia.

In 2009 he released his critically acclaimed album Late At Night distributed by MGM and Mucho Bravado, the album has sold well over 1000 copies independently.

Dom Miller: Dom Miller is a singer and guitar player. He used to play in Rocketsmiths and has always done stuff around Brisbane music. He plays indie pop country songs that are usually about his girlfriend or how he wishes he was better at writing songs and stuff. If you ever see him live make sure you heckle, he likes that.
