We chat with Carly from The Base Collective about their lush natural skin care products that are also conveniently insta-worthy! The Base Collective will be debuting at our Melbourne market, which is, you guessed it, this weekend!

Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to begin your label.
Cassie and I (Carly) started The Base Collective just over a year ago – it took a long time from our first plans to have something to show for it! Cassie is a Pharmacist and has a huge interest in natural and organic products – she is super aware of what goes into everything and can actually understand what is on the labels! I’m a Banker (so less useful on the ingredients) but have wanted to explore life outside of the Corporate world for a little while now so when we started throwing around ideas it seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to jump on in!

Our idea was a lifestyle collection that forms a base for you to build from. We focus on products you will use everyday and make them as good as possible and as good for you as possible so you don’t have to think. You can just grab them and know that they will work and be good for you and your family. We started with our Hand Wash and Hand Milk and have recently added our Magnesium Range.

Who inspires you and your creative process?
There are so many people who we look up to from a business inspiration perspective. Irene from Nourished Life for her absolute commitment to a natural lifestyle, Julie Stevanja the CEO of Style Runner, the amazing ladies at Natural Supply Co and Norsu. Mostly people who just jumped in and work everyday at making it happen. And whose businesses really reflect themselves.

From a product perspective our families definitely inspire us – we only produce products we are happy for our kids to use. In fact they are our chief testers!

Tell us something exciting that you have planned for The Base Collective this year.
So many things! Firstly we are building on our Magnesium Range. We have a Hand and Body Wash coming out shortly and a Magnesium Body Balm. Both should be here before the end of October (crossing all fingers!)

We have a Rose version of our Hand Wash ready to go and a Baby Range in the pipeline. We’ve also started looking at a cleaning range but there just aren’t enough hours in the day, and looking at exporting which just blows us away. We weren’t expecting the interest we’ve had and have been so lucky to meet so many amazing people since we opened our virtual doors.

Name one resource that your label could not live without.
Does Google count?! Because we do use that a hell of a lot!

I think our manufacturer. They are based in Melbourne and have just been amazing to work with. If we didn’t have them in place we couldn’t be planning what we are for the future.

Tell us about your favourite product from your collection.
Cassie’s favourite is the White Tea Magnesium Body Balm that we are about to release. It really feels quite luxe on the skin and she has even been using it as a face moisturizer and swears by it now.

My favourite is The Hand Milk. It’s so light and doesn’t leave any residue – we worked hard on that! I may be guilty of using it more as Body Milk too. It fabulous for dry skin on any part of the body and gentle enough to pop on my daughter too.
