Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to begin your label.
I was very lucky to grow up on the Mid North Coast of NSW on the beautiful farm of Bago Vineyards. This is where my love and respect of the environment developed from childhood bush adventures. This love of the outdoors and the passion to create art and clothes merged and after studying Fashion and Textile design, at UTS and years of working in the fashion industry, I started Bago Studio.
In the beginning, the underlying ethos of Bago Studio was to create female fashion for a bicycling lifestyle. But this has now grown into much, much more, encompassing a love of life and adventure. Bago Studio creates practical and positive fashion inspired from the outdoors, travel and adventure. The label is now run out of a small studio in Brisbane, where I design and make everything in house, keeping it intimate and exclusive.
Who inspires you and your creative process?
I get inspired from the lovely ladies who wear Bago Studio and their feedback, I love hearing their travel stories and adventures and to know that the clothes have been worn and are loved. The natural environment has always inspired me visually. I live on the edge of national park and I only have to go on a short bush walk to escape into a different world.
Tell us something exciting that you have planned for Bago Studio this year.
I am currently working on a collection of transformable travel pieces, which are mix and match, adaptable and versatile. I’m very excited about releasing these pieces later in the year.
Name one resource that your label could not live without.
My sewing machines in particular. I work as a designer/maker and my sewing machines are what I use and rely upon the most.
Tell us about your favourite product from your collection.
The Adventure Dress. It’s a quick-dry travel dress with an eye catching Bago Studio print. It’s the perfect combination of practical elegance, which you can wear for a day hike and then also out to dinner. I love it because it’s so comfortable and flatters all body shapes making you feel great when you’re wearing the dress.
