Featured Designer: Blink Designs

FK talks to Belinda from her Melbourne based print label Blink Design.

Tell us about your fun label, Blink Designs.
Blink is a print based label that is pretty diverse – well very diverse really – kids things, homewares, jewelery anything printable!

What is your background and how did you get to where you are today?
I came to this via a degree in fine arts (printmaking) and work in film/video art departments, propmaking, producing and a t shirt label ‘Relief’ with a friend from art school.

What is your creative process and what keeps you motivated?
As a complusive maker I am always creating something or another (especially if there is paperwork or other business things that need attending to).

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Oh all over the place. This week I went to the Vienna exhibition at the NGV which was so beautiful, particularly some of the household items with the amazing level of craftsmanship coupled with great design.  I also loved the Callum Morton show at Heide which is art and funny too.

What do you love most about what you do, and what challenges have you had along the way?
The best thing is when you are really happy with something you have made and other people feel the same way about it. Making things to a price point is always a challenge.

What are you currently working on and what is coming up for Blink Designs?
We have just released a new ‘Colours’ wall chart – which is very nice to have around – and two poster clocks ‘Big Ben’ and ‘Dimmeys’ for those who know and love iconic clocks! And a set of hooks that are like a branch (which is what its called).
Currently I am working on a range of screenprinted porcelain jewellery. Coming to grips with the quirks of clay is yet another new challenge.
