Based in Byron Bay, The Candle Library pride themselves on offering Australia’s best selection of scented candles.  Recently, the husband and wife brains-behind-the-business decided to expand their offering to include their own handmade products. We are delighted that they will be debuting the collection at our Brisbane market this Saturday and Sunday.  Read on.

Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to begin your label.
After opening a retail store in Byron Bay, I was surprised at how many candles we were selling.  This led us to explore and stock many different candle brands, and eventually (about 12 months ago), my husband (who hand pours all our candles) and I started playing around making our own candles.  We decided to just go for it and see if we could do it ourselves!

Who inspires you and your creative process?
I have always been obsessive about scents – candles, perfumes and even the smell of foods.  So it seemed like a natural thing, to delve into the world of scented candles.  For me, and I soon discovered for many others, different scents trigger different emotions and memories.  In my head, I created this little stories and what those scenarios or scenes would smell like to me and that would translate with other people as well.  From there, we set about creating custom scents to embody those stories. It was always about the story, first and foremost, and the scents are all derived from that.

Tell us something exciting that you have planned for The Candle Library this year.
We plan to expand our own range; we will be launching a new range of scents in different vessels as well as expanding our custom candle range.  We have collaborated with some great fashion brands, businesses and events in the last six months and we are also looking forward to expanding our range of Wedding custom candles.

Name one resource that your label could not live without.
My tiny, but amazing team at The Candle Library.

Tell us about your favourite product from your collection.
Definitely Hearts On Fire.  This was one of the first scents I wanted to perfect for our range.  My favourite scent is rose but I didn’t love the other rose scented candles available, for this scent I was able to create my perfect rose!  The mix of amber and musk, with roses and lily of the valley make this the perfect scent.
