Featured Shop: Love & Clutter

FK chats to Leonie about her lovely Tasmanian store, love & clutter who will be debuting their collective at our upcoming Melbourne markets!

Tell us a bit about love & clutter and the concept behind it.
love & clutter is a treasure trove of colourful, quirky items. Primarily focused on the handmade but complemented by a number of vintage and other items that we just can’t walk past. We stock a strong representation of Tasmanian designers and makers but also search high and low for unique items not seen elsewhere. We are also the exclusive stockist of lj junior, the children’s label of designer lj struthers. lj junior clothing is a mix of individual hand worked one off pieces and small run of contemporary pieces.

What is your background and what lead you to where you are?
After spending many years living in Sapporo, Japan I knew that when I returned to Australia I wanted to finally take my interest in clothing and design seriously. So upon settling in Hobart, Australia I started love & clutter, initially to sell my adult clothing range lj struthers and other complimentary products. Lj struthers clothing soon out grew the space and is now stocked in our other store the maker, this gave love & clutter the opportunity to fully embrace the bright and quirky and expand our lj junior range.

What labels & product do you stock and what are you always searching for?
love & clutter stocks a number of Tasmanian designers not found elsewhere Fee Fi Fo Fum – illustrated acrylic jewellery, Carmilla – polymer clay jewellery, High horse – illustrated cards and art and of course the ever growing range of in house made love & clutter goodies. We also sell limited stock of unique designs found on our travels around the globe. Lucky us x
We are always trying to find the new and unique and of course if it is bright and colourful that’s even better.

What makes your store unique?
Love & clutter has an eclectic aesthetic of the bright, colourful and quirky. We strive to offer that which is not readily available and products that are both unique in design and made with exceptional workmanship.

What has been the most successful aspect of your store?
love & clutter has been a continually evolving story since its inception nearly 7 years ago. We contribute our success to being a niche retail experience and pride ourselves on our individual and great customer service.

When you are not working, what else are you doing in Hobart?
Working, well that’s most of time but when I do get away it is be with my family. We love to go cycling or bush walking or eating great food with friends.

What is the design & art scene like in Tasmania?
Tasmania has a very active arts community which is very supportive and encouraging of both emerging and established designers. The recent opening of MONA has been incredibly inspiring and uplifting and also a great place to spend a day off.

What can we expect from you at the FK Melbourne market this April?
We are so looking forward to our debut at The Finders Keepers and are frantically making making making for our unveiling. Our display will be very colourful with many great designs from Tasmania unseen before at The Finders Keepers. Everything we have will be colourful there will be cushions, clothing, bags, jewellery and a few unexpected treasures. Come and take a look!
