Today we chat with TURNER + TURNER as they prepare for our Melbourne market!
Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to begin your label.
TURNER + TURNER is a family collaboration between Neil, Suellen and Kallie Turner. Neil is a woodworker, Suellen is a photographer and Kallie is a visual artist. We design and create limited edition timber homewares and leathergoods.
TURNER + TURNER grew from our shared love of modern functional pieces with clean simple lines, and our desire to showcase the natural beauty of the materials we use. A friend was involved in a market and encouraged us to attend. This meant that we had to create many pieces in order to meet the deadline, which was exactly what we needed. We have kept up the momentum ever since.
What would be one piece of advice you would give a first time seller at The Finders Keepers?
Have fun. We were really nervous and not sure what to expect, but the Finders Keepers team put us at ease immediately. Everyone was friendly, professional and generous with their time and knowledge. We made an effort to get to know other stallholders throughout the weekend and this made our time at the market really enjoyable.
We found the Finders Keepers market a wonderful place to connect with people, gain valuable advice and information, and to meet collaborators. We’d highly recommend being involved in a Finders Keepers market.
Tell us something exciting that you have planned for TURNER + TURNER this year.
We’re excited to be launching our website in the next few months. It’s been great to see our brand develop throughout this process and create a site that is an extension of who we are as a collective. We can already see that our site will evolve over time and are looking forward to the direction it’s taking.
Name one resource that your label could not live without.
Family. We’ve been blown away by the support from our family and we couldn’t have come this far without their advice, skills and assistance. It’s been great to share this experience with our family and we’ve created some wonderful moments together. We feel sure this will continue into the future.
Tell us about your favourite product from your collection.
As a collective, our favourite timber piece would be our natural edge bowl. It’s versatile and highlights the beauty of the timber, plus it’s one of the first pieces Neil started making 40 years ago. Our favourite leather piece is our embellished limited edition clutch. It’s playful and elegant, and again, it’s really versatile as it can be used during the day and in the evening. As you can see, we love creating pieces that can be used and loved every day.
