Henry&Pop was born from a passion for the arts and the love of family.  We chat with Monica Henry of this Geelong based label as she prepares to debut at our Melbourne market this weekend!

Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to begin your label.
I’m a qualified artist with a Diploma of Visual Arts and come from a very creative family. I’ve always wanted to have my own business and bring my love of art to life. My husband James and I have two beautiful boys, Jack 3 and Max 1. Last year we moved back to Geelong after spending six years in Melbourne. It was then that Henry&Pop was born, after I decided to print my artworks onto fabric, to make cotsheets for Max’s bed. Having the two boys has inspired me to bring this business to life at the right time.

Who inspires you and your creative process?
Definitely my family. My husband is such a hard worker with his own business and the two boys inspire me daily, wanting to build this business up so I can contribute to their future. As well as family I am a member of Geelong Creatives. The brain child of Laura Van Noordenburg, a Geelong local who has brought together an amazing group of artists who now have their own shop. So much inspiration in the one space, thanks to Laura.

Tell us something exciting that you have planned for Henry&Pop this year.
Henry&Pop is constantly evolving with new designs and we are currently in the process of working on a new range of playmats that will be a little different from what we already have. We are also looking at expanding into nursery furniture and soft furnishings which is very exciting, as well as a few other furniture pieces which are top secret!

Name one resource that your label could not live without.
I would have to say my local support group in Geelong particularly the other members in the Geelong Creatives group who I can bounce ideas off and also source suppliers etc. I’m also part of a few other online handmade groups which I find a valuable resource.

Tell us about your favourite product from your collection.
I think my favourite product is our new playmat that I’m about to launch at Finders Keepers! So I can’t say too much in case this goes to print beforehand! My other favourite though has been our feather cotsheets, because it was my first creation.
