“The Sentimentalist” range by southern Gold Coast printmaker Fiona Watson reflects her love of all things old, worn and nostalgic and the memories connected to them. She documents, preserves and reflects upon older coastal homes and holiday flats (often just before they are demolished) along with classic surf vehicles and the coastal landscapes surrounding them. The limited edition hand cut, printed and coloured linoprints tell stories from earlier times, with people who lived through the era having fond memories (and always sharing their stories) and younger customers loving the work with the renewed interest in everything retro.
The process of linoprinting involves drawing a design onto a surface then removing unwanted areas with small carving tools to leave a raised area to receive ink. The block is inked with a roller, then a print is taken by laying paper onto the inked surface and rubbing the back. This is repeated for the number of prints in the edition.
All of the work is created in Fiona’s home by hand and with a wide range of unique pieces to choose from at an affordable price, you’re sure to find something perfect for yourself and your home.
