I have a small home-based ceramics studio not far from the beach in sunny Queensland. I hand-build rustic, functional stoneware and decorated earthenware pieces that range from plates and bowls to planters and vases. I mainly use hand-building clays that are gritty and give a great texture when fired. I use basic, traditional techniques such as pinching, coiling and slab construction and often incorporate pattern or design into the finished piece. It is the imperfect form I love – the uneven edge, the organic shape, the imprint of a finger left by the maker.
