SOLLIS is one of Australia’s brightest new jewellery labels. Designed and created by Eleanor Ford, the pieces are chic yet wearable, marrying bold colours with simple silhouettes. Throughout her many years in the jewellery industry in London, Paris and now Sydney, Eleanor has always had a love of craft and the tactile qualities imbued in any handmade object. “I constantly challenge myself to learn new craft techniques. Taking a spark of an idea and a new technique, I often design jewellery in a hands on fashion, allowing a concept to develop through the making process itself’.
Fusing this passion for craft with a bit of rock ‘n’ roll and a sharp fashion aesthetic, SOLLIS jewellery is stunning, innovative and beautifully made. For her 2012 collection entitled ‘African Queen’, Eleanor draws inspiration from the bold shapes of Masai tribal jewellery and the colours of African wax print fabrics. Large collar necklaces are created using the popular 70’s craft technique of macramé, which has been given a new and vibrant twist. The jewellery celebrates contrast; mixing soft tactile fabrics with structured metal beading, it is feminine but with an edge.
