Penelope and Pip
Penelope and Pip

Penelope and Pip is the creation of Brisbane based illustrator, Rachael Smith. Her art prints begin as hand-drawn sketches using Indian inks and pencil, which are then completed digitally with lots of layers of vintage patterns and textures. “I love mid-century colour palettes and am inspired by the fairytales and adventures I read from all the lovely books I had as a child. I have written stories all my life and so all of my little pictures also have their own unique tale of whimsy and adventure - kind of like a one page picture book.”

Rachael’s artwork depicts a menagerie of characters and creatures – from bold bears and curious cats, to the old sweet little bird or two.  You can read about Trevor the bird-keeper, Sir Reginald Von Schmidt (purveyor of fine moustaches) or lament at the sad tale of the lost llama, Ruby-Sue. Her work is all handmade by her and you can find her charming drawings printed on archival art prints, lovely linen cards and fabric fat quarters.
