Mel Stringer is an Australian illustrator that uses her pen and paper like a butterfly net to capture and document various things that happen in her life.
Often she brings out a new self-published art zine full of her drawings, sketches and writings and has worked with a range of clients such as Frankie Magazine, Stay Home Club, RAVE Magazine, The Finders Keepers, Belly Kids, Laa Laa Land, VICE and more.
Mel is inspired by everything kawaii, pastel, cute, offbeat, nostalgic and currently popular.
Each girl she has ever drawn has been a release of personal energy or vague self portrait, even though they have all been so different. She see’s these girls as expressing her confident, moody, sulky, tough and melancholy sides. They are strong when she may feel weak and they express a certain sadness for her when she doesn’t want to allow herself to feel down - in a way they are a personal diary, her mood regulator and shield.
