The Empress Dowager's New Jewels are, in many ways, inspired by designers/artists utilising unlikely materials to make classic objects.
They are the Likkle Girl's take on those old-school over-the-top drippy-drapey gem-studded heirloom jewellery, with "gems" lovingly hand-stitched using jewel-hued Marimekko fabrics, old scraps and new materials which she tries to flog off as "precious stones". Not unlike the two charlatans in Hans Christian Andersen's tale of the silly emperor.
She is also attracted to exaggerated and abstract forms, in art...in fashion...right down to everyday household objects and that attraction translates into the deliberate larger-than-life scale of The Empress Dowager's New Jewels - drama-mama, overstated and super-amplified. Not for shrinking violets!
All the New Jewels are one-off statement pieces that will not break the bank or your neck (or turn it green and rashy like some cheap metal would).
She hopes that you will see the same tongue-in-cheek value that she sees in them.
