Elke’s love for working with clay started when she married into a family of potters and worked as a studio potter on the North Devon Coast in the UK. She made slip decorated earthenware inspired by the pottery tradition in that area.
She has always felt drawn to porcelain, loving the translucent delicate quality of the clay. Since starting her pottery in Noosa on the Sunshine Coast Elke has been working with Australian porcelains and has been really inspired by the sheer delight and challenge of working with clay again.
Elke’s pots are wheel thrown and the decoration is minimal, using natural oxides, which allows the beauty of the elegant shapes and the porcelain to shine through. The resulting pots have a natural sophistication and a beautiful quiet presence, which are a joy to use.
