Winter Solstice: Winter Solstice are a five piece folk band hailing from Brisbane town, Queensland. Ari, Rosie, Kez, Mitch and Jess met while studying music together at Southbank and came together to form Winter Solstice. Each brought their own varied tastes in musical genres including folk, classical, jazz, pop, metal, etc. to the melting pot to create the rich harmonies, complex melodies and infectious rhythms that is their sound.

Whilst studying the band played many gigs together in venues such as The Globe, The Zoo, The Hive and The Prince of Wales Hotel; as well as playing at events such as the 4 Walls Festival in Kelvin Grove. Now having completed their diplomas, Winter Solstice are in the process of promoting their new EP which was released in October 2010. From here Winter Solstice plans to bring their music to the rest of the world, who we’re sure will welcome it with open arms.

Mardi Lumsden: Mardi Lumsden is a jack of many trades. The alt-folk singer-songwriter from Brisbane, Australia, is also a journalist, has written a thesis on Brisbane’s music street press, and presents a segment on local Brisbane music on ABC radio. She co-owns indie label Wallflower Records and taught gymnastics for many years (but has only managed one gymnastics reference in her music so far). Mardi captures the simplicity and intricacies of human nature in her songs. With her band, Mardi Lumsden & the Rising Seas, the songs are lovingly crafted; weaving stories together using the melodica, banjo-mandolin and other instruments friends (and strangers) have passed along. Mardi Lumsden & the Rising Seas recorded their second EP, Wherever you go, there you are, with ARIA-award winning producer Magoo at his Applewood studio, a converted church west of Brisbane. The EP’s closing track, Classified (WVTM), won the 2010 Q Song award in the Folk/Ballad section and was a finalist for the 2010 Song of the Year. www.mardilumsden.com

Swaying Buildings: Swaying Buildings are a pop band from Brisbane, Australia. Formed in 2006 they’ve since released their debut album ‘Something In My Shoes’ and sophomore record ‘Bloom Beside The Freeway Moon’. The band’s sound has been described as an effortless blend of the best bits of indie rock from the 1980s to today. Noteworthy performances include Brisbane’s Valley Fiesta and Whiskey A Go Go (Los Angeles) as well as supports for Australian bands such as Cloud Control and The Seabellies.

Jeremy Neale: Part man, part minotaur, all epic adventure. Jeremy fronts the 12-piece garage pop monster Velociraptor and plays in more bands than he knows what to do with. On top of this he has recently begun to share the songs of his solo folk collection with his debut EP set for release on July 16, 2011. Behold, a man, a guitar and the soundtrack to a sunny day. www.triplejunearthed.com/jeremyneale

We The Ghosts: ‘We the Ghosts’ are an alt-country/pop band from the Great South East of Queensland, Australia. With Cesar’s songwriting and Alex’s guitar work to polish it off, the Duo effortlessly blends Country music with a love for bluegrass and a bucket full of catchy hooks.

Bity Booker: Bity Booker is a singer, songwriter. She was born in Carrara, Italy. Nurtured by artistic parents with a passion for music, her father is an Australian sculptor and her mother an Italian art teacher. While Bity was a small child, her family noticed her natural musical ability, and encouraged her interest in music. She was interested in singing and music from an early age.During high school she developed an interest for heavy metal music, she started to sing in heavy metal bands at the age of 14. On graduating from Art Institute in Perugia in 2007, she attended Università degli Studi di Perugia (2008-2010) major in Anthropology, and started to study guitar. In 2009 she decided to quit screaming/growling and sing with her clean, bright and unusual voice again. She started to develop her unique style of songwriting with her classical guitar, she decided to do things her way writing many songs. In 2010 after graduating she moved to Australia where she’s playing live and studying music.

Inland Sea: The ten members of Brisbane’s Inland Sea are bound together by a love of complex harmonies and song writing. Since forming in early 2010 Inland Sea have won hearts with their luscious five-part vocal harmonies, interwoven instrumentation and lyrical sincerity. Creating a sound that soars and swells higher than the tide, their music evokes the awe, majesty, melancholy and bittersweet joy of the stormy shore. In 2011, Inland Sea are going from strength to strength, winning a spot at Laneway from Triple J Unearthed, and playing shortly after at Playground Weekender for their debut interstate show. Having supported the likes of John Steel Singers/Jonathan Boulet on the “Here’s Johnny” Tour, and the predominantly sold out Passenger “Flight of the Crow” tour, the ten-piece have shared their sound with much of the Australian East Coast and left them wanting more.

Pear and The Awkward Orchestra: Sweet juicy and unique, pear and the awkward orchestra are a quirky, memorable musical offering; whimsical folk-pop from a mini-orchestra of diverse instrumentation and sparse arrangements supporting an emotive and powerful voice and gritty, personal songs. Pear and The Awkward Orchestra are Brisbane-based. EP Russian Doll (2007) and EP something will come (2009) have enjoyed critical acclaim and regular airplay and orchestrated the grassroots rise of this unique band. A full-length debut album is in production to be released in July 2011, single Oh Katrina released February 2011 and on radio rotation Australia-wide.

Edward Guglielmino: Edward Guglielmino is a chameleon and a comedian; marrying his left field abstract-folk-rock with a sincere honesty. Ed has gained strong tastemaker respect and a burgeoning underground following in his home country, Australia and further afield. 2011 sees Guglielmino working on his upcoming release Ed G & The Show with producer Jamie Travaskis (the producer responsible for such local classics as Mckisko, Texas Tea’s ‘The Junk Ship Recordings’ and Timothy Lee Carrolls ‘For Bread and Circuses’), playing shows in New York and touring the east coast with Kate Nash amongst others. Guglielmino also worked with the Sound Crane project a collaborative album composed in order to raise money for the tsunami victims in Japan.

A brief history of achievements;

In 2010 Guglielmino’s gig with David McCormack on the 18th of April was recently listed as one of the 10 highlights of the April by ‘Australia’s Year In Music 2010’ His single ‘Settle Down With Me’ was also released and received airplay on Triple J, FBI, 3rrr RTR and Edge Fm. It was also a featured release on Itunes Australia.

In 2009 he released his critically acclaimed album Late At Night distributed by MGM and Mucho Bravado, the album has sold well over 1000 copies independently.

Dom Miller: Dom Miller is a singer and guitar player. He used to play in Rocketsmiths and has always done stuff around Brisbane music. He plays indie pop country songs that are usually about his girlfriend or how he wishes he was better at writing songs and stuff. If you ever see him live make sure you heckle, he likes that. Check his songs out at dommiller.bandcamp.com

Blue-eyed quirky soul/pop singer, Bec Laughton, is an endearing and feisty “vocal powerhouse”. The firey songstress is known for her quirky uninhibited lyricism, irresistible grooves and intoxicating stage presence. Like eating a melting soul/popsicle on a warm summers day her music will inspire, invigorate and increase your apatite. Chewing on influences from the 50’s-70’s soul/funk her baby blues tell a new tale. A budding soul songstress with a quirky tongue, drizzling melodies that taste of Lauryn Hill style hip-hop/gospel, hints of Erykah Badu and drops of jazz.

Dave Flower’s song writing presents an individual style, topical and emotive, a touch feisty with social commentary but undeniably groovy with lot’s of rhythm and energy. A faithful acoustic guitarist throughout his musical journey, David’s sound is warm and earthy flowing through various styles while engaging audiences with his lyrical delivery and catchy harmonica melodies.

The soundscape is complete with a dynamic rhythm section of bass, drums, percussion and vocal harmonies inspiring and entertaining both the listener and the dancer with the bands trademark free spirited show. Established as an Aussie festival favourite and always on the move David Flower has released 2 albums with 3rd to be released later this year with National tour dates to follow.

Having been born and bred in the far Northern Territory Ilona Harker’s music reflects the depths and wilds of this frontier landscape. Ilona moved to Sydney and studied under Ian Miller at JMC Academy before moving to Brisbane where she started working with Butterfingers as a singer and performer. After realising her passion was not hip hop, Ilona formed ‘Sugartown’ an all girl 5 piece original country ensemble but the peace of country life called and Ilona moved to sleepy Brunswick Heads in Northern NSW to pursue a solo career and teach herself to play guitar and ukulele.

After 2 years being relatively quiet Ilona went on a small tour of France and met up with Marc Collin from Nouvelle Vague who offered to produce Ilona’s debut album in France under his own label. However the opportunity to work with Jodi Phillis and Tim Oxley in Australia was an offer to good to refuse and Ilona began her recording in 2010. Ilona’s debut solo album ‘That Which Lasts’ is an independent album of extraordinary originality imbued with lush and heart melting moments.

Brisbane inhabitants Blackwood Willow formed through combined tastes in folk, pop, blues and primitive psychedelic rock. A 5 piece band driven on cultivating a raw-hypnotic live sound while sticking within contemporary rationality.

Chrislyn Hamilton was the ‘last girl standing’ for Australian Idol 2008 when she was only 17 years old. Chrislyn amazed both the judges and the Australian audience with her powerful soul voice, her ability to interpret soft ballads and her incredible stage presence.

After a well deserved break, Chrislyn has formed an amazing band of talented Brisbane musicians. They have a song list that includes Jazz, Pop, Rock and Soul. Their line-up starts at a four-piece but can include brass section and backing vocals. Chrislyn Hamilton band is ready to rock the socks off your stage. Her energy, charisma and humour are unique, her band reflect this with their powerful rhythm section and vocals.

Here is an introduction to the music that will be showcased at the upcoming Brisbane Finders Keepers at The Old Museum on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th June! The live music is FREE for everyone to enjoy. Check out the below for the line up and some snippets of the bio’s of some featured musicians.

Saturday June 26th
12 noon: Spring Skier
1:30 pm: Matthew Vale
2:30pm: Dan Parsons
3:30pm: Hello Yoko

Sunday June 27th
12 noon: Cascadeer
1:30 pm: Bell Divers
2:30 pm: Charlie Mayfair
3:30 pm: Mr Maps

Spring Skier: What happens when Hungry Kids of Hungary vocalist Kane Mazlin and The Paper & the Plane bassist Remy Boccalatte get together? Apart from the usual creation of language to be added to popular culture, and the over-indulgence in barley based treats, music is also created in a somewhat reminiscent pop folk vein. With the combination of dual vocals that both explore an entire range, leading the way over melodic guitar and keyboard, it’s not hard to find yourself drift off into more nostalgic times. Open minded to explore in various percussion and range of instruments, Spring Skier is surely going to create something for everyone. Currently working on tracks for a debut release, keep your eyes on the pines and ears to the snow…

Dan Parsons: At just 22, it’s somewhat surprising that Dan Parsons has already been on the scene for a couple of years. Having made his foray into the musical world with his heritage-flavoured debut release Old Brown Shoe in 2007, Parsons continued on this path for a short time. Then after gradually being absorbed by a new musical world of peers and influences he found a new desire to make a different type of music. Bravely scrapping his next lot of release-bound recordings he decided to start from scratch and after six months of demoing and experimenting in his one-man-band style, Parsons created a new band and enlisted the help of Melbourne producer John Castle and collaborator James O’Brien (The Boat People) to complete the transition. With his debut album all but complete, flag-ship single ‘Run With Me’ is the opening taste of grander things to come.
While now taking his cue from modern indie classics like Wilco and Death Cab For Cutie, Parson’s ongoing journey sees him glancing into the rear view mirror at the history of artists that encompassed his childhood world. It’s a range of genres that he messes together seamlessly, somehow making you forget that they were really that different to begin with.

Cascadeer: are a handful of busybodies who sometimes pause to take rest amongst the rolling hills of Brisbane town and lend their talent and charm to the songs of ex-Canberran Kieran Ryan. The result is a sometimes floating, other times fiery journey of lyrical folk and layered harmonies. Their first 4 track recording was independently produced by Ryan. They have recently completed a mini tour of Sydney and Canberra with Voss (ACT) and amongst other things, have been called “truly a beautiful band to watch and to hear.” (Phil Smith, ABC Radio)

HELLO YOKO: are are a young Brisbane 5 piece band who have been known to craft some dangerously catchy indie/ pop tunes.
Charming audiences with beautiful vocal harmonies and a real honesty in song, HELLO YOKO always aim to deliver a captivating show that will win hearts and bring delight to the ears.
The band have been playing together as a duo since 2008 and with a full band from late 2009. They have spent most of last year working the Brisbane music scene. Drawing upon their noted influences of Sarah Blasko; Beach House, Washington and Arcade Fire; the band of multi-instrumentalists truly understands what it means to be songwriters.

Here is an introduction to the music that will be showcased at the upcoming Brisbane Finders Keepers at The Old Museum on Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th November!
Avaberée: You will be blown away by the emotive melodies and harmonies of Avaberée. This youthful, fresh folk/soul trio consists of Brisbane based students Aimee, Genevieve and Irena who have collaborated to perform insightful originals and skilful arrangements of contemporary songs. Fresh out of high school, all three girls are currently studying a bachelor of music. They have been working on their craft for most of their lives and are accomplished individual performers. With a combined stage experience of 1000+ performances, Avaberée know what they are doing under the spotlight and are sure to make the toughest of critics tap along.

Emma Louise: It’s hard to believe it was 3 years ago that a shy 16 year old Cairns girl was flown down to Brisbane to perform at The Tivoli as the winner of 2 Q Song awards including The Courier Mail People’s Choice. Whilst finishing school Emma Louise went on to win New Music To Commercial Radio and ACMF award. Fastforward to 2010 she won a scholarship to attend Song Summit where she found herself in a workshop with Lior and Josh Pyke. Lior immediately offered her support shows and Josh Pyke was heard to say “this girl is a gun”. Legendry US music commentator Michael Azzerad who recently attended BIGSOUND said “she has a subtle intensity that one doesn’t often find in the singer-songwriter genre. It’s unique”. Still a teenager Emma Louise arrived in Brisbane this year where she has been rubbing shoulders with the indie music elite and preparing for her next recording. There is a lot of talent in this little person. But be warned she will steal your heart and your mind. She is the thief.

Matthew Vale (solo) & Lion Island

bio coming soon..

Bang Bang Boss Kelly: Take five ex-hardcore musicians, give them some traditional country music instruments, some potent lyrics, wicket harmonies and you have Bang Bang Boss Kelly. They sing songs rooted in old stories and new emails. But the songs they sing don’t reflect a country life, they tell stories about Valley nightclubs, girls, drink and a lack of money.. basically the gospel of the youth. So you will see them at your local pub, at a burlesque fund raiser, and at major music festivals, they will play anywhere that they can play loud! Their music will make you want to dance, their lyrics will make you want to drink, but their four vocal might just make you fall in love with them.

Chloe Tully: Spirited and sincere, Australian singer-songwriter Chloe Tully is a sigh of relief in a world of disposable pop music. The 22 year old grew up in south-west Queensland, on the edge of the desert, 1000km from the closest city. In recent months she has enjoyed marvelous success after releasing her debut EP ‘Wallflower’ in February, joining ranks with Albert Music Publishing in Sydney. Chloe is currently writing and recording for her next record.

Steve Grady: Singer/Songwriter Steve Grady is poised to release his new contemporary folk album ‘Youth Skin’. Recorded over 12 days in a granny flat studio in the NSW central coast with ARIA award winning producer and songwriter Shane Nicholson (‘Ratlin Bones’, ‘Familiar Ghosts’). Grady has recently released the first single ‘Legacy’ to glowing reviews, coinciding with a Qsong nomination (Queensland’s largest songwriting competition) featured article on the TripleJ website, a tripleJ unearthed feature artist, & national airplay.
Since the release of Grady’s 2009 critically acclaimed EP ‘Hotel Chesea’ he has been performing and touring relentlessly around Australia. On the side he as been busy producing and recording local Brisbane artists and bands such as ‘Chole Tully’, and touring electric guitarist for Dan Parsons.

Bonfire Nights: Bonfire Nights are a new two-piece band fresh on the Brisbane music scene. Their raw, untamed sound has been compared to that of My Bloody Valentine, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Kills. Back in early 2009, Ruth Nitkiewicz, an archivist by day, decided to pick up a pair of sticks and learn to play the drums. After jamming with guitarist Steve Foster, they soon struck up a songwriting partnership and, after mounting interest from local bands and friends, they decided to take the leap of faith from the bedroom to the big stage. Despite being in their infancy and not having officially released any material, the duo have been a feature artist on Radio New York’s ‘B-sides’ show and on Japanese radio station SECM17, and have received spot plays on Triple J as well as regional stations in South Africa and Argentina. After their first gig in March this year they signed a management deal with Mucho-Bravado (Hungry Kids of Hungary), and they plan to tour the EP in Australia and overseas in the year ahead.

Mosman Alder: Mosman Alder began in the summer of 2010 as a three piece. Since then the band has written an extensive amount of songs and has evolved into a six piece. Mosman Alder have recently played shows with bands Richard in your Mind, Spod, Machine Translations, Guineafowl and The Honey Month.

Tané
Tane Emia-Moore is a 20-something bluesy-poppy-rocky so and so, originally from Tasmania, now based in the Australian musical mecca – Melbourne. With high energy dirty rocknroll songs, as well as a somber bag of blues and croons, his stage show is a dynamic, emotive, and very personal insight into a mind overcome by music.
His solo shows have been getting blood pumping and toes tapping for the better part of 2010, and 2011 looks to be a big year for this young songwriter, with a Tasmanian Tour in the works, Victorian music festival spots primed, National one-off gigs, and studio time for his first EP also in the pipeline.

www.myspace.com/taneandco

The Stirling Collective
The Stirling Collective is a folk rock/ indie band brought to you by Josh Simoes and Olivia Hand. The delicate harmonies and intricate melodies of this acoustic duo will be sure to warm the cockles of your heart. Their original, dynamic sound has been shaped by influences ranging from the Bon Iver to The Beatles, Fleet Foxes to Fleetwood Mac. If this sounds like your cup of tea, then head to the Finders Keepers Market on Saturday March 26th for an afternoon of chipper tunes, groovy beats and delicious melodies.

The Bon Scotts
THE BON SCOTTS ARE NOT AN AC/DC COVERS BAND
It’s hard to put a finger on The Bon Scotts, there is no box quite big enough nor any genre so wide as to contain them. The charismatic blend of found sounds, home-made instruments, traditional folk, modern stories and toe-tapping rhythms ensure their very own brand of infectious and sweet music, ascribing to “what it means to be young” – Neon Hearts.

The sound of the seven piece is all at once distinctive and captivating, brilliant, if quirky, and come with a playful cynicism and palpable passion for word play. Though, arguably- the most exciting aspect of The Bon Scotts is the vigour these guys bring to their live performances. Never holding back, they give all to the audience. Animated and outrageous they paint the atmosphere with electricity and ‘youthful, unfiltered charm’ – Mess & Noise

www.myspace.com/thebonscotts

Lok Tan
Drawing from classical training at the Melbourne Conservatorium and a love of techno, Lok Tan writes music for piano and electronics. He once played for the Queen and is a lawyer working for the Government. It will be Lok’s first appearance on stage where he will be mixing live electronic beats with jazz piano.

Courtney Barnett
Courtney Barnett plays jangly-folk-pop guitar and sings with a hurricane of happiness. Her upbeat melodies are matched by her on-stage charm assault, singing songs of observational highs and lows, with a positive spin on the negative things.
2010 has been a busy year for this sparkle-eyed songstress after setting off on her first Australian East Coast tour, and then being selected by The Push and FReeZACentral to be mentored by Sibylla Stephen of Melbourne folk-pop sweethearts The Little Stevies. Courtney has been finding success and subtle appreciation all over Melbourne, including her hyptnotic and melodic track Anonymous Club being featured on the Naked In The Woods 2 compilation alongside The Little Stevies, Clare Bowditch, Monique Brumby and Angie Hart. This album popped up in Rhythms, Frankie, Triple J Magazine and was Album Of The Week on ABCs Radio National.

With a merch table that consists of home-made CDs/cassettes, name-stamped pencils, and appropriated strawberry jam, Courtney Barnett’s songwriting talents are equally unique and unexpected. She sings from her sleeve, writes with her left hand, and doesn’t talk about the same old things that everybody else is talking about. Currently recording a debut EP in her bedroom, Courtney Barnett will steal your heart and sell it for rent money.

The Olivettes
The Olivettes bring you some original pop summer surf avant-garde country folk rock. They’ve shared the stage with Adalita (Magic Dirt), Immigrant Union & Tamworth’s favourite country boys The Merri Creek Pickers plus they played at the 2010 Numurkah Foodbowl Festival and Queenscliff Music Festival. The Olivettes are recording in February 2011. Expect a 3 track single in March, followed by a 7″ split, and a full album around July. They’ll be playing in your backyard this summer and your lounge-room in winter.

Georgia Fields
Fields made her entrance on the local music scene in December of 2007, with her independently released EP ‘Drama on the High Seas of Emotion’. The title-track peaked at #4 on the Triple J Unearthed Pop Charts that year, and with each CD cover handcrafted from a Little Golden Book, Fields soon sold out.

Georgia became quite the festival favourite, playing on numerous occasions for the Apollo Bay Music Festival, St Kilda Festival, and the Queenscliff Music Festival, to name just a few. She has supported iconic Australian artists Abby Dobson (Leonardo’s Bride), Angie Hart (Frente!), Charles Jenkins (Icecream Hands), and alt-country supergroup The Wilson Pickers.

In November 2010 Georgia Fields was featured as “Album of the Week” for Radio National, Radio Adelaide, and Beat Magazine. In the same month, Fields was invited to be a special guest (alongside Kim Salmon) with The Rockwiz Orchestra at The 2010 Queenscliff Music Festival. Acclaimed singer-songwriter Clare Bowditch named Georgia Fields as one of her ‘recommendations’ for 2011 in the recent February issue of The Age Magazine, and JMag have announced that “Fields is one to watch”.

Pageants
Pageants are a coconut-garage sandal-gaze band from Melbourne. Their debut EP, ‘Forbidden Delicious’ (recorded by Mickey Young of Eddy Current) is currently available in stores as a 7″/CD and has been released in the US through Night People. The debut Pageants LP will drop late 2011

The Sketching Room: New acoustic/indie duo, The Sketching Room didn’t start in a blaze of glory, playing a long list of live shows, touring the nation and pitching their music to anyone in the industry that would be willing to listen. They started in purest form; brothers in law writing songs together in lounge rooms, laying down tracks in their self-made studio (with the help of a few other family members) and giving away their music for free to anyone who wants it. The Sketching Room, determined to keep the love of making music and sharing it with anyone and everyone as their main focus, have a strong DIY attitude towards performing and releasing their songs. Without the creative restrictions that come with the big budget of a major label, everything is done simply, with love and with pure personality. Everything they do, from writing and recording to cover artwork and promotion is done either by themselves or by friends and family close to them. Their music reflects this with simple yet emotive songs which are already turning heads in the music industry and picking up new fans from all around the world. The Sketching Room’s line-up consist of acoustic guitars and harmonising vocals with textures of keys and percussion. With influences such as Ben Folds, Jeremy Enigk, Death Cab for Cutie and of course, The Beatles, The Sketching Room’s music has been described as simple songs written with emotion and based on catchy melodies.

http://www.myspace.com/thesketchingroom

Emma Heeney: After six years with Brisbane come Melbourne band ‘Gorgeous’, Emma Heeney is building foundations as an artist in her own right. ‘Gorgeous’ had success on the independant scene playing festivals such as Livid, The Valley Fiesta, Port Fairy & the Woodford Folk Festivals, touring nationally headlining their own shows and supporting the likes of Damien Rice, Pete Murray, The Whitlams, and Frente to name a few. With five recordings (with Gorgeous), substantial airplay on national radio, television appearances on the ABC, channel seven and nine and multiple guest appearances on albums including Pete Murray’s ‘Feeler’ under her belt, Emma Heeney launched her debut solo album ‘Dreaming of Bridges’ in 2006. Recorded at Eastern Bloc Studios in Melbourne, ‘Dreaming of Bridges’ hosts an all star cast including Peter Luscombe (Paul Kelly), Angie Hart (Frente/Splendid/Holidays on Ice), Wally De Backer (Gotye/The Basics) and recieved rave reviews around the country. Emma is currently putting together album number two which she plans to have finished by late 2011.

http://www.myspace.com/emmaheeney

SiB: SiB is the stage name of French-born Australian singer/songwriter Adrien Siboulet. Two years now since the release of his debut EP “drifting part one”, SiB has returned from extensive traveling and performing in Los Angeles, New York and Paris. “Soul explosion”, “sexy rawness”, “smooth, soulful and somewhat sultry”, “elegiac balladry”, “electrifying soundscapes”, “eroticised lyricism”, “passion and conviction”, “languorous” and “wondrous noises” are words used by music journalists and reviewers over the last couple of years who have attempted to describe his music. SiB says “It all comes from the blues for me. I think there’s a healing process through the song, there’s salvation.” He is now performing around Australia with his new Rock & Roll outfit featuring Joe Cope on the Hammond organ (The Hello Morning, Eagle & The Worm), Luke Bolton on bass and Andy Reed on drums (from Whitley). They have fairly recently finished the final touches to the new EP titled “Hunter Street” recorded live by Colin Leadbetter at Bakehouse Studios in Melbourne on a cold Monday night back in May 2010. “Hunter Street” will be launched at iconic Melbourne rock venue The Tote on Thursday 21st of October 2010.

http://www.myspace.com/sibmusic

The Stillsons: Featuring the dual-vocals of guitarist Justin Bernasconi and drummer Cat Canteri, their unique sound is a cocktail of traditional and contemporary influences with echoes of Fleetwood Mac, Gillian Welch and Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris.

“The Stillsons’ debut album is a beautifully-realised and moving record that captures the finest elements of Australian folk-rock music whist offering a hauntingly distinct inflection” Beat Magazine

http://www.myspace.com/thestillsons

Baby Drivers: Mr Auteri & Ms White have been sharing their dreamy pop songs and evocative harmonies with Melbourne since 2004. Named appropriately after a Simon & Garfunkel song, the Baby Drivers are steadily making their mark on the small bars and hidden laneways of the city. Rhys has been writing songs from childhood, his stay-in-your-head melodies inspired by outfits like The Zombies and The Kinks. Monica’s Peruvian roots bring with them a rich history of music. Her poetic and playful lyrics, combined with her soulful voice are reminiscent of artists like Angie Hart and Sarah Blasko. Soulful, passionate, fun and driven, the Baby Drivers are easy on the ears and hard to get out of your head.

http://www.myspace.com/babydrivers

Portal Window: Releases include ‘Curious’ (2004), an EP of bleeding hearts and upbeat tempo, melancholic guitars and misplaced violins. A single ‘Autumn Calls’, released in 2008, is a boss nova influenced track; suits cocktail parties, garden parties. An album ‘A World For You’ has been in the works for sometime and will be realised October 2010. Typical Portal Window themes include soundtrack moods, boss nova rhythms, ragtime, and the usual catchy pop tunes with underlying beats; sometimes they rock out.

http://www.myspace.com/portalwindow

Cilla Jane: Melbourne’s acoustic pop songstress Cilla Jane is touring her new single ‘Until morning comes’. Cilla Jane combines folk style guitar and enchanting vocals to create her captivating sound. Accompanied by haunting cello lines, intricate acoustic guitar and glockenspiel, the band will take you away into a dreamlike world. This Melbourne singer songwriter is no stranger to the live music scene, she has supported Kate Miller Heidke, Tim Freedman Luka Bloom and The Audreys. ‘Ah my kryptonite- the liquid mix of female vocals and the warmth of cello. While obviously of the acoustic folk model, her voice and the constructions of it make it better than generic. It has its charms, which will hopefully be further revealed on an upcoming full album. And now i’ll go back to soaking in it. Drum Media.

http://www.myspace.com/cillajane

The Bon Scotts: It’s hard to put a finger on The Bon Scotts, there is no box quite big enough nor any genre so wide as to contain them.

Charlie Mayfair: In January 2010, a band was born: full of energy, bursting with love and spilling over with songs to sing and stories to tell. This band is Charlie Mayfair. The first part of this year has seen the band racing around their hometown writing songs, making friends, and letting people experience their unique style of folk-fired pop. They hollered their gigs from the rooftops and Brisbane heeded their call.

And so their three-part-harmonised hollering led them to play at many lovely venues like The Powerhouse, The Troubadour, The Zoo and The Sound Lounge, sharing the stage with the talented likes of Montpelier, Tin Can Radio, Skipping Girl Vinegar, Loren and Iceland’s Svavar Knutur, amongst others.

Lizzy Cross: Hailing from the gracious town of Engadine, this 20 year old musician embraces a charisma to charm all ages. Everybody who knows her agrees the nineties was a decade just too late for Lizzy to be born into, her core influences being Stevie Nicks, Bob Dylan and the beat of the life – The Beatles. Lizzy writes about a mixture of peculiar experiences in her life, comprising truth and enthusiasm to the sad and happy times, making life for others seem that much peachier. She completed her HSC in music and drama at Newtown Highschool of the Performing Arts, and is the now the smiley voice on the end of the phone for Engadine Music Education Center. She hopes to share her music and opinions as far around the world, and for as long as her optimistically singing heart will let her.

M.J.Woodbridge: A raw rarity on the local Sydney scene, M.J.Woodbridge possesses a powerful voice which holds a unique ability to draw in bystanders who are mesmerized to witness a fragile 23 year old as the source of an instrument with tones of such experience and maturity. His soulful songs have been described as lyrically intense, dynamically impressive and risk taking, together combining to create deep, powerful melodramatic pop songs.

In a city and a world, that is rich with diversity, M.J.Woodbridge not only stands out from the crowd, he bewilders audiences both musically and visually. “Through his powerful and fragile human space he creates on stage, he surely reminds an audience what it’s like to be human.”

Caitlin Park: Caitlin Park is not your average neo-folk musician. A classically trained singer-songwriter from Sydney, she has single-handedly taken this genre and pulled it to the left with her abstract composition, electro-acoustic stylings and film nostalgia. After absorbing her Mother’s obsession with words, Caitlin Park’s fascination with the elegancy of language was nourished by a part-time post at a cult video store around the corner from her family home. This culminated in a piece of music based on the murder plot scene in Hitchcock’s Dial M For Murder – her reverse soundtrack.

Then, songs that were written for short films began to take shape as folk snapshots riddled with sound effects and dialogue taken from 1940/50′s films. Caitlin Park’s own lyrics juxtapose these clippings and are executed with deep, smooth vocals that come from somewhere far below her ribcage. An intimate ensemble of multi-intrumentalists join her live: guitars, melodicas, recorders, lap-tops and samples, strings, glockenspiels and lots of voices.

Eirwen Skye: Eirwen Skye grew up in the shadows of hymns and country ballads. Having studied music of the renaissance and baroque at the Sydney Conservatorium, she turned her hands to composing songs to bring music to the heavens closer to the jazz and blues sounds that come from deep beneath the earth. “Eirwen Skye has such a dominant personal style that it’s difficult to understand why she’s not travelling the country with her own headlining show. Her voice was absolutely gorgeous, echoing Cat Power’s breathy and heavy vocals…there is no doubt that soon she will have an entire audience dedicated to her haunting and powerful performance” – Drum Media

Rainbow Chan: Rainbow Chan is a young Sydney musician with a love for story-telling. Whether she is chasing romantic adventures, stitching together childhood dreams or rummaging through antique fairs, Rainbow is constantly collecting bits and pieces for her music. Conjuring an eclectic mix of vintage tones, sweet textural landscapes, manipulated found-sounds and layers of electronic and acoustic colours, Rainbow Chan’s songs are delicately-crafted gems embedded in the nostalgic imagination.

Her forthcoming debut EP “brushed upon with rose” will be available for download on iTunes at the end of the year. Following her love for collectibles, Rainbow will also be releasing the EP on limited CD editions in personally handmade sleeves created with vintage fabrics. Written, recorded and produced by Rainbow, mixed and mastered by Jonathan Boulet, the 5-track release reflects a mature and instinctive musical direction that will surely make a colourful splash in the music scene.

Leroy Lee: is a well respected songwriter from Sydney. Since winning Triple J’s Unearthed competition with his song “Drawing Smoke”, Leroy has been criss-crossing the country with the likes of The Frames (The Swell Season), Missy Higgins, Lior, Kaki King, Lisa Mitchell, Jeff Lang and Jeff Martin.
His songs have found steady rotation on Australian radio and TV and recently began charting on college radio across the U.S. Leroy is also an accomplished guitarist, tangled up somewhere between the English folk of Nick Drake and the Delta Blues of Mississippi John Hurt.

Missing Children: Missing Children is the musical lovechild of two Sydney siders, Sophia Louise and Dan Eyles. With a penchant for winding melodies and simple yet beautiful storytelling, Missing Children are the perfect soundtrack to a summer afternoon sipping ciders in the park…but be sure to pack a raincoat, for the swelling storm is lingering near. Fresh from a run of recent shows, Missing Children are fast becoming one of Sydney’s favourite new talents and are well worth checking out- whatever the weather.

Eye to Eye: Eye to Eye are a Sydney-based four-piece comprised of Harry Lochhead on guitar/vocals, Joshua Salisbury-Carter on guitar/vocals, Brendan Ward on drums and Dylan McKendry on bass. Eye to Eye create an intricate sound layered with melancholy guitars and driving beats.

Fergus Brown: Fergus Brown is a singer and songwriter from Sydney. A winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards, and the FBi Radio / Time Out Magazine SMAC Award for Song of the Year, Fergus has performed at the Laneway and Homebake Festivals, and with Martha Wainwright, Jens Lekman, Sally Seltmann, Josh Pyke, Sarah Blasko, Holly Throsby and Cloud Control, to name but a few. Fergus’ compositions have featured in ‘Tender’, a Patrick White Award-winning production at The Belvoir St Theatre, and in ‘The Starter Wife’, an Emmy-award winning series screened on US NBC Television. Fergus Brown’s acclaimed debut album ‘Burgers Frown’ is available now. “Couldn’t be any cooler. An endearing blend of wit and sincerity.” – Drum Media

The Falls: Almost by accident, from opposite ends of the country, a girl from Darwin and a boy from Darlo came together to create The Falls. For the uninitiated, The Falls are a must see for lovers of acoustic folk. Their warm boy-girl harmonies and simple but blindingly effective less-is-more arrangements are breathtaking to behold. They draw inspiration from the likes of Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac and their influences are clearly evident in their beautifully crafted melodies and subtle harmonies. While each of them write independently, it is rare that a song is completed without input from both. Simon, with his cynical edge and knack for writing honest and direct lyrics, and Melinda, with her optimism and gift for melody, combine in a way that inspires and compliments each other.

SHADY LANE: Despite the many changes the music of SHADY LANE has happily stayed where it belongs, in that somewhere-place between Grandaddy, Aphex Twin and DNTEL. His debut album, Here We Go, Down The Black Hole, is a heady mix of thoughtful electronica, dreamy pop and atmospheric instrumentals brought together through Lane’s clear, cutting voice and the broad themes of space, existence, discovery and the adventures between.

“Jordy has a striking voice that could be described as a less extravagant Rufus Wainwright…somewhat subdued, but with enough hooks to keep the songs closer to pop territory than electronica.” – Music NSW. “Like the Silver Jews or The Flaming Lips, Shady Lane lures you in with easygoing, upbeat songs that belie the dark lyrical content underneath.” – Wilfred Brandt, Two Thousand. “A melding of folk, pop and synthesisers, his performance was an indie take on Death Cab For Cutie with a dash of Aphex Twin” – Drum Media

Art Rush: Art Rush is a Sydney solo artist who is currently in the midst of an incredibly ambitious project. He has recorded eight albums since 2007 and four of them are part of Fifty Malls, an ongoing series of 50 albums about 50 Sydney shopping centers.

Jack Sh!t: FBi radio rascal and rabid raconteur Jack Sh!t found his girlfriend at Finders Keepers. She wasn’t cheap!

Smart Casual: Mikie Inglis aka Smart Casual is one of those designer/DJ types. In terms of the DJ thing, Mikie has been the co-founder of various cultish parties, including the much loved HEALTH CLUB @ The Flinders (2005-2008 RIP), JINGLE JANGLE @ Goodgod, and the notorious CLAMBAKE beach parties. Alongside that he plays every Friday or Saturday at CHING-A-LINGS, books the disk jockeys for the Cricketers Arms hotel, and puts mixtapes up irregularly on his blog Casual Radio. Mikie reckons he could organise the best music festival Australia has ever seen, he just needs about 3 million dollars.
