Making the journey to Sydney and Melbourne this season is vegan nail polish brand Sienna, travelling from Bundjalung country, Byron Bay. Created by nail artist Danielle Egan, Sienna offers an environmentally-conscious alternative for colourful and healthy nail care. We caught up with Danielle to learn more about Sienna’s story and get a preview of new shades launching at the Sydney/Eora Design Market on June 16-18 at the Hordern Pavilion and the Melbourne/Narrm Design Market on July 7-9 at the Royal Exhibition Building.
What inspired you to start Sienna?
As a nail technician launching into the world of nails nearly a decade ago, there wasn’t anything suitable for my clients – based in Byron Bay – where we are very conscious of our health and environmental impact. I looked for something to suit my clients and couldn’t find anything, so I set out to make it myself.
What did you do before you started your business?
Lots of creative businesses; I had an organic clothing line at one stage, and my bread and butter came from social work/community care.
What colour are you wearing at the moment?
Peace – our Rosewater sheer pink. It’s a classic colour and gives your nails a super healthy glow.
What do you love most about your Sienna?
I love that I get to come to enjoy my work every day, from working with our beautiful team to being active on social media to planning our next bright colour collection, it’s all so creative and fun.
Could you tell us about your creative space? What’s your studio like?
We have a studio in Byron Bay where we primarily work from. It’s a small space with a cute little showroom and a rainbow of colours as you walk in the door. The sun streams through at the perfect angle when heading out at the end of the day; it’s a special moment to see all the colours lit up in the full, bright sun.
Your first FK was back in 2017 – Can you share a market memory?
Wow, six years ago! I am always so amazed at how many people share their beautiful stories of Sienna and how it has played a role in their lives. One woman told me how she wore Courage during the birth of her first child and that every time she felt she couldn’t push again, she’d look at her nails and think, I can do this! Have Courage. I am moved at every single market. Colour plays such an important role in our lives.
What’s new for Finders Keepers?
We will launch our new Winter collection called ‘The Quiet’. A trio of serene and understated hues that speak volumes in calm, muted tones.
One song you’d like to add to the Market Playlist?
Surely it’s on there already – Say Nothing by Flume! Incredible mix and incredible vocals.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I look forward to immersing myself in the lovely Finders Keepers environment. As a founder, you can end up doing A LOT of emails, so getting back to Sienna roots and saying hi to our customers is fun and nourishing.
